Overview

ZENETEX specializes in management and technology support services for a variety of federal agencies and commercial organizations. We have an opportunity for a Master Interoperability Engineer. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in training device design reviews and review training device design documentation to assess compliance with interoperability requirements
  • Field questions from Navy Aviation Simulation Master Plan (NASMP) platform and common product software developers regarding implementation on interoperability requirements and aid in troubleshooting problems encountered during development
  • Federation Agreements Document (FAD) and Federation Objects Model (FOM) and identify potential impacts to other NASMP stakeholders
  • Integrate new aviation platforms into distributed exercises with other NASMP platforms, the Navy Continuous Training Environment, and Virtual Flag
  • Conduct technical meetings on a wide variety of distributed Navy Aviation training topics, including clarification of system requirements to NAWCTSD IPT members, training system developers, peer standards groups such as CAFDMO
  • Translate high level, navy aviation warfare training requirements into optimal object model design and low-level system requirements
  • Authoring Point Papers to clearly identify issues facing the standard, approaches to address issues, and theoretical advantages and disadvantages to each approach to achieve distributed mission requirements
  • Align the NASMP standard to the foundational concepts of HLA-RPR and DIS, and provide clear justification in cases of divergence (victim modeling of electronic interference effects and damage, aggressor modeling of threat position relative to target, electronic signals always being traced to a transmitter object, etc.)
  • Align the NASMP standard to the NCTE Interoperability Standard
    • Participate in and contribute to in the NCTE IWG
    • Follow and contribute to discussions regarding NIS issues online (NCTE JIRA)
    • Track all changes, evaluate relevance to NASMP standard, carry over changes to the NASMP FedWG process where appropriate
  • Participate and provide input to CAFDMO WG
  • Conduct FedWG:
    • Evaluate proposed changes to the NASMP FOM for potential impacts to system of systems interoperability
    • Facilitate discussion amongst 20 or so stakeholders (developers, systems engineers, program managers)
    • Demonstrate an ability to bridge the technical gap between high-level, system-of-systems requirements management, and developer-level requirements for training systems and supporting software
    • Conform to established CM procedures regarding NASMP FAD/FOM and associated artifacts.  Utilize IDEA Lab Subversion and JIRA to check in/out files and manage changes
    • Work with IDEA Lab specific software to manage changes to FOM. Carry over Object Model changes from NIS; follow detailed instructions to compile the FOM, and 'debug' object model discrepancies with other elements of NASMP distribution

Education and Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in software development where producing distributed interoperable software applications was predominately required
  • Experience in developing software that provides the ability for distributed applications to communicate
  • Must possess a commanding understanding of the Open System Interconnect (OSI) network layers, middleware, run time infrastructure, common object request brokering and interoperability standards associated with modeling and simulation used in training systems
  • Proficient in C, C++, C#, shell (e.g. PEARL) and Java programming languages.
  • Experience in Windows and sockets programming
  • Experience in developing software using both Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Experience in developing software using XML, and HTML
  • Must understand the CMMI process
  • Strong documentation skills and desired

Desired Skills

  • Software background skills including High Level Architecture (HLA), Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS), Defense Modeling and Simulation Office (DMSO) HLA 1.3 Interface Standard, Virtual Tech Corp. NG Pro Run Time Infrastructure (RTI)
  • Experience developing software in both Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Experience using tools for software development, configuration management, and diagnostics, including OMDT
  • Familiar with Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) Interoperability test tools

Security Clearance

  • This position will require U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance
